Epoxy Primer Plastall
Epoxy primer is a two-component material used to protect surfaces from corrosion, improve paint adhesion, and level the substrate.
Here is a step-by-step guide for application:
1. Preparation of tools and materials.
Before starting work, prepare:
✔️ Epoxy primer (base + hardener).
✔️ Thinner (if needed).
✔️ Spray gun, paint roller, or brush.
✔️ Protective gloves, goggles, and respirator.
✔️ Degreaser (isopropyl alcohol, antisilicone, or acetone).
✔️ Sandpaper (grit P180–P400 depending on surface).
2. Surface preparation
Clean the surface from dirt, dust, and rust.
Sand the surface to improve adhesion.
Degrease the surface with a special agent.
Dry the surface with a clean cloth.
3. Preparation of epoxy primer
Stir the base (component A) well to distribute deposits.
Add the hardener (component B) in the correct ratio (usually 4:1 or 2:1 — according to package instructions).
Mix thoroughly for 2–3 minutes.
If needed, dilute with thinner to the desired viscosity (max 10–15%).
Let the mixture rest for 5–10 minutes before application.
4. Applying the primer
Spray method: Use a spray gun with a 1.3–1.8 mm nozzle. Pressure 2.0–2.5 bar.
Roller or brush methods: Suitable for small areas, apply thin coats.
- Apply the first thin coat ("wet on wet").
- Let it dry for 10–15 minutes (depending on temperature).
- Apply a second coat to achieve even coverage.
- If necessary, apply a third coat for better protection.
Good luck!
Classification of epoxy primers
Epoxy primers come in various types depending on composition, purpose, and properties.
1. By composition
Two-component – consist of base (resin) and hardener mixed before use. Provide high durability and adhesion.
One-component – ready-to-use without hardener, with lower strength than two-component products.
2. By purpose
- Corrosion protection – protect metal surfaces from rust and harsh environments.
- Adhesion promoter – improve paint adhesion on smooth or difficult surfaces (tiles, glass, plastic).
- Leveling – help to even out substrate irregularities before decorative topcoats.
- Water-repellent – form a moisture barrier on surfaces exposed to water.
3. By surface type
- For metal – used in automotive industry, offers corrosion protection.
- For concrete – strengthens substrate before applying coatings (paints, resin floors).
- For wood – protects from moisture, fungal decay, and improves adhesion of paints and varnishes.
- For ceramic and tiles – ensures good paint adhesion on glossy surfaces.
4. By application method
- Aerosol – spray type, convenient for small parts and spot work.
- Liquid (for brush/roller) – universal for large areas.
- For spray gun – professional application for uniform coating.
5. By operating conditions
For indoor use – suitable for indoor areas without toxic components.
For outdoor use – UV-resistant, moisture and temperature resistant.
Industrial – very wear-resistant, used in factories, warehouses, workshops.

Advantages:
- High adhesion — ensures firm bonding on any surface.
- Deep penetration — strengthens structure and seals pores.
- Corrosion protection — shields metal constructions from moisture and chemicals.
- Chemical resistance — resistant to acids, alkalis, oils, and salts.
- Ideal base for paints, resin floors, tiles, or decorative topcoats.
Recommended applications:
- Garages, parking lots, auto repair shops
- Warehouses, production halls, industrial floors
- Foundations, basements, exterior facades
- Metal containers, pipes, equipment
Technical data:
- Type: Two-component epoxy composition (base + hardener)
- Color: Light gray (can be tinted)
- Drying time: 24–36 hours (fully cured after 36 hours)
- Consumption: 150–300 g/m² (depending on substrate porosity)
- Packaging: 1 kg, 4.5 kg, 10 kg
Application:
The surface must be carefully cleaned from dust, grease, rust, and moisture. Components are mixed in the correct ratio and applied with roller, brush, or spray gun. Work is carried out at a minimum temperature of +10 °C. After full drying, the surface is ready for further processing.
